HARDWARE

Hazlett-Kincaid has invested heavily in maintaining cutting-edge hardware and infrastructure.

Internet Infrastructure
Within the office, our computers are connected via 100 Base-T Ethernet and we have a high-speed connection at 1.5 Mbps to the outside world. This high speed connection allows us to send and receive files quickly, reducing time wasted waiting for data. Clients may also access interim and final data and modeling data via a secure website.

Silicon Graphics 540 (SGI)
This machine is our main modeling workhorse. Housed in the tower are three Intel Pentium III Xeon chips running at 550 MHz each and 640 MB of RAM. SGI machines are known for their excellent video capabilities and ours is no exception. For comparative purposes, as a result of the SGI's Cobalt Bus architecture and the multiple processors, our computer performs graphical manipulation and system I/O approximately 60 times faster than a single-CPU PC of comparable chip speed. Having this computing power allows us to rapidly evaluate numerous model configurations ultimately improving model calibration, reliability, and defensibility.

Gateway Select 1220 CS
Our Gateway machine is powered by an AMD Athlon processor. Video is processed by a Nvidia GeForce 3 video card that has access to 64 MB of DDR memory. The Nvidia GeForce 3 chipset is the top of the line consumer video processor and allows us to produce the highest quality vizualizations possible. With its on-board 512 MB of RAM, this machine is capable of pushing EarthVision® and GIS applications.

GTCO Digitizing Tablet
For data input, we maintain a 44X62 inch GTCO digitizer for the efficient transfer of archived map data into the model environment.
Linux Servers
Our network is supported by 2 high performance servers running the RedHat Linux 9.0 operating system.  In addition to supporting our internal network, these computers are used to perform calculations on some of our larger and more complex datasets.
Miscellaneous Computers
We also have several other computers on our network. While these computers are not suited for modeling, they are used for GIS applications, word processing, deliverable construction, and manipulation of output images from the modeling software. For storage, we maintain almost 90 GB of redundant hard drive space connected via high-speed 1394 FireWire cables. All project and systems data are backed up to disk nightly making your data safe with us. Hazlett-Kincaid serves project results to our clients via a secure web site. The client is able to log on and view results on an ongoing basis. Both data backup and web-served projects give our clients peace of mind that they are in both safe and competent hands.
